I've been waiting patiently for the apple blossom in the orchard behind our house to open and hopefully coincide with a sunny day. Yesterday it all came together..... Trying to decide on my subject, I saw this old tree which had fallen, but amazingly was still alive and full of blossom. The old trees with their holes provide great places for nests and yesterday the Starlings, who return without fail every year, were busy collecting food for their noisy broods. A male pheasant kept watch under the tree - he probably has his own nest nearby in the long grass. He frequently puffed out his chest, flapped his wings and made his presence heard. A really lovely day.
