I returned to New House Farm, Bodiam in July to start a painting which required three visits to complete.
I wanted to capture the late morning/midday light when the sun lit up the field beyond the trees and cast wonderful shadows from the line of Poplars onto the grasses and the crop of drying rape seeds of the field I was stood in. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was a view I wanted to paint.
I returned several times to capture the light at the correct time of the day in order to paint the shadows accurately.
With not a single person around the whole time I was there and only the pheasants walking in and out of the field for company, I decided I should include at least one of them in the painting.
Oil on board, 40 x 30 cms.
